The sculpture was revealed on May 21, 2010 by Chairman of the Riga City Council Nils Ušakovs, Board Member of Alberta College Anna Saltikova, sculptor Jevgēnijs Šitovs and President of the Latvian Chimney Sweepers Association Varis Vilcāns.

The origin of the sculpture goes back to 2008 when some students during exam week noticed a chimney sweeper on the rooftop of the building next door. The College students believe it is a good luck to touch one of the sweepers buttons before an examination.
