STUDY PROGRAMMES

At the moment Alberta College has four accredited study directions, and seven first level professional higher education study programs only in Latvian are conducted there in:

  • Study direction "Law" (accredited until 31.12.2020) contains the study program "Legal Regulation of Business"
  • Study direction "Information and communication sciences" (accredited until 31.12.2020) contains study program "Public relations".
  • Study direction "Management, administration and real estate administration" (accredited until 31.12.2020) contains the following study programs:

-  "Business", with two specializations, "Small business economy and organization" and "Accounting";

-  "Institution work organization and management", with the specialization "Personnel work organization";

-  "Entertainment industry management and production";

-  "Marketing and innovations".

  • Study direction "Information technology, computer engineering, electronics, telecommunication, computer management and computer science" (accredited until 31.12.2022) contains the study program "Information technologies" with two specializations, "Programmer" and "Computer network administrator".

Study program “Legal Regulation of Business”

Qualification awarded: Legal Assistant

Volume of the study program: 80 credits/ 120 ECTS

Qualification level awarded upon completion (NQF/EQF): 5

Final examination at the end of the study program: State final examination, which includes a defence of qualification work


Aim of the study program:

To prepare qualified, competent and competitive legal assistants specializing in legal regulation of commercial activities in compliance with the level four (EQF, level 5) professional standard of a legal assistant, who is able to provide practical assistance to representatives of legal professions, perform the work of office administrator or to work in companies, and who are focused on further education.


Tasks of the study program:

  • To ensure the provision of the study process in accordance with the requirements of the standard of education, Latvian legislation, the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015);
  • To provide students with conditions and opportunities to obtain first level professional higher education according to the professional standard of a legal assistant;
  •  To provide students with the necessary theoretical knowledge, as well as practical and professional skills in the profession to be acquired, by fostering their competitiveness in changing social and economic conditions in the labor market;
  •  To ensure the quality of the studies by attracting qualified academic staff and using modern methodological, scientific and material – technical provision in the study process;
  • To develop the capacity of scientific analysis, ability to solve problems independently by integrating the latest research findings into the study process and by encouraging the involvement of students in solving practical and scientific problems;
  • To promote the participation of students in professional development and further education processes, as well as to create motivation to increase their level of qualification;
  • To promote cooperation with other higher education institutions in Latvia and abroad;
  • To establish cooperation with professional organizations and employers.


Learning outcomes to be achieved:

 1. Is able to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of facts, theories, regularities and technologies related to the field of law, as well as is able to demonstrate specific knowledge and understanding of commercial activities;

 2. Is able to perform practical tasks in the profession of a legal assistant on the basis of an analytical approach;

 3. Is able to demonstrate skills allowing to find creative solutions to legal problems;

 4. Is able to negotiate and discuss practical issues and solutions related to the profession of a legal assistant with colleagues, clients and management providing arguments;

 5. Is able to learn further independently, thus developing one’s competences;

 6. Is able to formulate, describe and analyse practical legal problems in the profession of a legal assistant, as well as is able to select and use various types of information in solving problems;

 7. Is able to participate in the development of law by demonstrating an understanding of the role of legal assistant′s profession in a broader social context.

Study program “Public Relations”

In Qualification awarded: Public Relations Specialist

Volume of the study program: 80 credits/ 120 ECTS

Qualification level awarded upon completion (NQF/EQF): 5

Final examination at the end of the study program: State final examination, which includes a defence of qualification work


Aim of the study program:

To prepare qualified, competent, and competitive public relations specialists according to the fourth (EQF 5th) level of the public relations specialist profession standard who are able to successfully integrate in the job market and are orientated towards further education.


Tasks of the study program:

  • To ensure the conduct of the study process in compliance with requirements of the education standard and Latvian legislation, and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education (ESG 2015), and the UN program "Principles for Responsible Management Education" (PRME);
  • To provide students with conditions and opportunities to obtain first level professional higher education in compliance with the public relations specialist profession standard;
  • To provide students with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical and professional skills in the profession to be acquired, foster their competitiveness in the changing socio-economic and the labor market situations;
  • To ensure the quality of studies by involving qualified academic staff and using modern methodological, scientific, and technical equipment in the study process;
  • To develop in students, the skills of scientific analysis and ability to solve problems independently through integration of the latest research findings into the study process and promoting the involvement of the students into solving practical and scientific problems;
  • To promote cooperation with other Latvian and foreign higher education institutions;
  • To develop cooperation with employers in the field of public relations;
  • To promote the participation of the students in professional development and further education processes and to create motivation to raise their level of qualification.


Learning outcomes to be achieved:

2. Is able to perform practical tasks in the public relations profession on the basis of an analytical approach;

3. Is able to demonstrate skills that allow one to find creative solutions to public relations problems, discuss and provide arguments for practical issues and solutions with colleagues, clients and management;

4. Is able to learn further independently, thus developing one’s competences;

5. Is able to work individually and as a team, to plan and organize, as well as assess and improve their own and other′s work in order to perform specific tasks in the public relations profession;

6. Is able to formulate, describe and analyse practical problems in the public relations profession, as well as is able to select and use various types of information for problem solving;

7. Is able to contribute to the development of public relations industry, demonstrating an understanding of the role of the public relations profession in a broader social context.

Study program “Business”
