STUDY PROGRAMMES

At the moment Alberta College has four accredited study directions, and seven first level professional higher education study programs only in Latvian are conducted there in:

  • Study direction "Law" (accredited until 22.04.2027) contains the study program "Legal Regulation of Business"
  • Study direction "Information and communication sciences" (accredited until 20.05.2027) contains study program "Public relations".
  • Study direction "Management, administration and real estate administration" (accredited until 26.08.2027) contains the following study programs:

-  "Entrepreneurship", with two specializations, "Business management" and "Accounting";

-  "Human Resource Management";

-  "Event Production";

-  "Digital Marketing".

  • Study direction "Information technology, computer engineering, electronics, telecommunication, computer management and computer science" (accredited until 31.12.2023) contains the study program "Information technologies" with two specializations, "Programmer" and "Computer network administrator".

Study program “Legal Regulation of Business”

A new study programme focused on legal aspects of the business has been created at Alberta College.As it is known, not only business, but also everyday life is closely related to various legal issues.

Study programme: Legal Regulation of Business

Qualification to be obtained: Legal Assistant

Amount: 120 ECTS The study field “Law” accredited for the maximum term of six years until 22 April 2027, by the Decision of the Study Quality Commission No 2021/06-A from 21 April 2021. Study language: Latvian

The aim and tasks of the study programme, and the learning outcomes thereof

The aim of the study programme

To prepare qualified, competent and competitive legal assistants specializing in legal regulation of commercial activities in compliance with the fifth level professional standard of a legal assistant, who is able to provide practical assistance to representatives of legal professions, perform the work of office administrator or to work in companies, and who is focused on further education.

 

Tasks of the study programme:

  • To ensure the provision of the study process in accordance with the requirements of the standard of education, Latvian legislation, and the standards of European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015).
  • To provide students with conditions and opportunities to obtain short-cycle professional higher education according to the professional standard of a legal assistant.
  • To provide students with the necessary theoretical knowledge, as well as practical and professional skills in the profession to be acquired, by fostering their competitiveness in changing social and economic conditions in the labour market.
  • To ensure the quality of the studies by attracting qualified academic staff and using modern methodological, scientific and material – technical provision in the study process.
  • To develop the capacity of research, ability to solve problems independently by integrating the latest research findings into the study process and by encouraging the involvement of students in solving practical and scientific problems.
  • To promote the participation of students in professional development and further education processes, as well as to create motivation to increase their level of own qualification.
  • To promote cooperation with other higher education institutions in Latvia and abroad.
  • To establish cooperation with professional organizations and employers.

 

Learning outcomes:

  • Can demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of facts, theories, regularities and technologies related to the field of law, as well as is able to demonstrate specific knowledge and understanding of commercial activities.
  • Can perform practical tasks in the profession of a legal assistant on the basis of an analytical approach.
  • Can demonstrate skills allowing to find creative solutions to legal problems.
  • Can negotiate and discuss practical issues and solutions related to the profession of a legal assistant with colleagues, clients and management providing arguments.
  • Is able to learn further independently, thus developing one’s competences.
  • Is able to formulate, describe and analyse practical legal problems in the profession of a legal assistant, as well as is able to select and use various types of information in solving problems.
  • Is able to participate in the development of law by demonstrating an understanding of the role of legal assistant′s profession in a broader social context.

Internship: Two internships are provided for Alberta College students, which can be implemented both in Latvian and foreign companies, in accordance with the chosen study programme. The student is encouraged to find the place of study practice independently according to the chosen specialization. If necessary, the College helps in finding an internship through the base of cooperation partners.

During their studies, students can participate in the Erasmus + project, studying or doing an internship at one of the partner institutions in Europe for 1-2 semesters.

Qualification Paper: As part of the qualification paper, students conduct research on current topics in the industry. Alberta College recommends using the potential of the College′s teaching staff, receiving free consultations from specialists and preparing a real project.

Several years of experience in a leading position in a large state capital company, in the work of the procurement commission of a public service provider, as well as in the position of a university lecturer. Opportunities after Graduation

As it is known, not only business, but also everyday life is closely related to various issues of a legal nature – concluding various contracts, obtaining licenses, registration of merchants, hiring and releasing employees, etc. After graduating from the study programme, you will become a legal assistant – a specialist in commercial law and commercial activity, you will know how to register a commercial company, how to obtain licenses and permits, how to conclude contracts and protect the interests and rights of yourself and your company.

Graduates can go on an Erasmus graduate internship within one year after receiving their diploma. Please see Erasmus section for more details.

 

Where can you work after graduation?

Upon obtaining a diploma with the qualification of legal assistant, you will be able to start working, for example, as an assistant to a lawyer, advocate, notary or judge, or to apply legal knowledge more widely in your company or workplace.

Where can you continue your studies?

After graduating from College, you can continue studies at one of the Latvian higher education institutions, for example at the EKA University of Applied Sciences, by enrolling in a related bachelor′s study programme in later study semesters. If studying abroad has always been your dream, then this is an opportunity to fulfil it by continuing studies in any country outside Latvia after graduating the College. Study program “Public Relations”

"Public relations is the ability to effectively communicate with the public, organize and manage public opinion; skilfully prepare information in such a way that it is interesting not only for the public relations specialist, the organization represented by the specialist or the mass media, but also for the public." - Sem Blake

Programme amount: 120 ECTS

Study field: In accordance with the decision of the Study Quality Commission from 19 May 2021, the study field Information and Communication Sciences is accredited for six years until 20 May 2027.

The aim and tasks of the study programme, and the learning outcomes thereof

The aim of the study programme

To prepare skilled, competent and competitive public relations specialists in line with the requirements of the fifth level professional standard of a public relations specialist who can successfully enter the labour market and are focused on further education.

 

Tasks of the study programme:

  • To ensure the provision of the study process in accordance with the requirements of the standard of education, Latvian legislation, standards of the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015) and UN PRME (Principles of Responsible Management Education) programme.
  • Provide conditions and opportunities for students to obtain short-cycle professional higher education in accordance with the standard of the profession of Public Relations Specialist.
  • To provide students with the necessary theoretical knowledge, as well as practical and professional skills in the profession to be acquired, ensuring the acquisition thereof in practical lessons, independent work and in practice.
  • To ensure the quality of the studies by attracting qualified teaching staff and using modern methodological, scientific and material-technical provision in the study process.
  • To develop the capacity of research, ability to solve problems independently by integrating the latest research findings into the study process and by encouraging the involvement of students in solving practical and scientific problems.
  • To promote cooperation with other higher education institutions in Latvia and abroad.
  • To develop cooperation with employers in the public relations sector.
  • To promote the participation of students in professional development and further education processes, as well as to create motivation to increase their level of own qualification.

  • Knows and understands general facts and specialized facts consistent with the public relations industry, as well as theories, correlations and technologies thereof.
  • Can perform practical tasks in the profession of a public relations specialist based on an analytical approach.
  • Can demonstrate skills that enable to find creative solutions to problems in the field of public relations, discuss and argue practical issues and solutions with colleagues, clients and management.
  • Can learn further independently, thus developing one’s competences.
  • Can work individually and in a team when planning and organizing, as well as evaluating and developing one’s own work and that of others to carry out specific tasks in the profession of public relations specialist.

So far, students have chosen such organizations as Riga City Council, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Latvia, the Red Cross of Latvia, VSIA "Dailes teātris", SIA "Polhem PR", VEF basketball club, SIA "OUT LOUD", SIA "Narvesen", AS "SEB banka", Institute of Latvia, SIA "Circle K Latvia", SIA "Schenker", AS "Grindeks", VSIA "Latvijas Koncerti", etc.

During their studies, students can participate in the Erasmus + project, studying or doing an internship at one of the partner institutions in Europe for 1-2 semesters.

Qualification Paper: Alberta College recommends using the potential of the College′s teaching staff, receiving free consultations from specialists and preparing a real project (for example, to analyse the company′s internal or external communication, to study public relations campaigns and used public relations tools, or to develop a social media communication strategy).

Opportunities after Graduation

A public relations specialist is one of those professions that can be applied in any industry of your choice and adapted to your field of interest – business, public administration and politics, culture, education or any other field. Today, the role of public relations has been appreciated, and they are in demand and necessary not only for companies, but also for individuals, such as politicians, various officials, musicians, artists.

Where can you work after graduation?

Public relations specialists create the image of a company, organization or public person and take care of their reputation, build relations with the media and actively communicate in social media and the digital environment, organize the company′s external and internal communication, etc. By choosing to study in this study programme, you will become a public relations specialist who will be able to choose the most suitable sector for yourself and work in a company represented by it, in a state or non-governmental organization, agency or act as an independent public relations consultant, e.g., in an international project.

Accountants were, are and will always be needed. The accounting profession is one of the oldest professions. Currently, more than 100,000 companies are registered in the Register of Companies of the Republic of Latvia, and each of them must keep accounting records.

The aim and tasks of the study programme, and the learning outcomes thereof

The aim of the study programme

To provide highly qualified, competitive, independent, responsible and creative business specialists or accountants in line with the requirements of the fifth level qualification relevant professional standard, able to successfully enter the labour market, work in small, medium and other enterprises (business specialists) or in enterprises, institutions and public organizations (accountants) in changing socio-economic circumstances, and continue their education.

 

Tasks of the study programme:

  • To ensure the provision of the study process enabling students to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and values (attitudes) in accordance with the requirements of the national standard of education, professional standards of a business specialist or accountant, relevant regulatory enactments, the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015) and guidelines of the United Nations Framework Programme "Principles of Responsible Management Education";
  • To promote the competitiveness of students in the labour market in line with labour market requirements in changing socio-economic circumstances and society’s needs.
  • To ensure the quality of the studies by attracting qualified teaching staff and using modern methodological, scientific, and material-technical provision and information technologies in the study process.

Sandra Tetere, Mg.sc.oec., docent Higher education obtained in the fields of business and entrepreneurial financial management. A professional bachelor′s degree in business management and the qualification of a company and institution manager obtained at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. A master′s degree in social sciences in entrepreneurial financial management is obtained at the Riga Technical University.

Enthusiasm in the field of personnel, business and finance was manifested already in the early years of studies, actively participating in practical business games and university HR management olympiads, achieving award-winning results. Long work experience in the financial and retail sphere, in a leading position, not only analysing business indicators, but also developing policies for risk management, customer service, employee evaluation and ensuring staff sustainability. Experience was also gained by working in one of the largest state capital companies, managing its training centre.

The term economics is borrowed from the ancient Greek word oikonomika (oikos – house, household, and nomos – law) and in direct translation means “household management”. So, economics teaches you how to be a good master, no matter what is your field of activity.

The aim and the tasks of the study programme, and the learning outcomes

The aim of the study programme

To provide highly qualified, competitive, independent, responsible and creative business specialists or accountants in line with the requirements of the relevant fifth level professional standard, able to successfully enter the labour market, work in small, medium and other enterprises (business specialists) or in enterprises, institutions and public organizations (accountants) in changing socio-economic circumstances, and continue their education.

Internship: Two internships are provided for Alberta College students, which can be implemented both in Latvian and foreign companies, in accordance with the chosen study programme. Students are encouraged to find an internship independently, according to their interests. If necessary, the College helps in finding an internship through the base of cooperation partners.

During their studies, students can participate in the Erasmus + project, studying or doing an internship at one of the partner institutions in Europe for 1-2 semesters.

Qualification Paper: As part of the qualification paper, students conduct research on current topics in the industry. Alberta College recommends using the potential of the College′s teaching staff, receiving free consultations from specialists and preparing a real project (for example, establishing a company, developing a business plan, developing a company′s development strategy, using economic indicators in evaluating the company′s performance)

Sandra Tetere, Mg.sc.oec., docent Higher education obtained in the fields of business and entrepreneurial financial management. A professional bachelor′s degree in business management and the qualification of a company and institution manager obtained at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. A master′s degree in social sciences in entrepreneurial financial management is obtained at the Riga Technical University.

Enthusiasm in the field of personnel, business and finance was manifested already in the early years of studies, actively participating in practical business games and university HR management olympiads, achieving award-winning results. Long work experience in the financial and retail sphere, in a leading position, not only analysing business indicators, but also developing policies for risk management, customer service, employee evaluation and ensuring staff sustainability. Experience was also gained by working in one of the largest state capital companies, managing its training centre.

Business is like a car – it will only roll down the hill if not steered! – the American commandment for managers. In Latvia, small and medium-sized enterprises account for more than 90% of the total number of enterprises, produce more than 65% of gross domestic product and employ around 70% of the country′s workforce. The aim of the study programme

To provide highly qualified, competitive, independent, responsible and creative personnel specialists in line with the requirements of the fifth level professional standard of a personnel specialist, able to successfully enter the labour market, work in enterprises, institutions and public organizations in changing socio-economic circumstances, and continue their education.

 

Tasks of the study programme:

  • To ensure the provision of the study process enabling students to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and values (attitudes) in accordance with the requirements of the state standard of education, professional standard of a personnel specialist, relevant regulatory enactments, the guidelines of the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015) and the guidelines of the United Nations Framework Programme "Principles of Responsible Management Education".
  • To promote the competitiveness of students in the labour market in line with labour market requirements in changing socio-economic circumstances and society’s needs.
  • To ensure the quality of the studies by attracting qualified teaching staff and using modern methodological, scientific, and material-technical provision and information technologies in the study process.
  • To develop the capacity of research, ability to solve problems independently by integrating the latest research findings into the study process and by encouraging the involvement of students in solving practical and scientific problems.
  • To promote the participation of students in professional development and further education processes, as well as to create motivation to increase their level of qualification.

Learning outcomes:

Knows and understands general facts and specialized facts consistent with the human resources management industry, as well as theories, correlations and technologies thereof.

Based on an analytical approach, can carry out practical duties in the profession of a personnel specialist, if needed, by discussing and substantiating them with co-workers, customers and management, using creative problem-solving skills, performing or supervising work activities that might involve unpredictable changes.

Can work individually and in a team, to plan, assess and improve their own and other′s work to perform specific tasks in the profession of personnel specialist.

The aim of the study programme

To prepare highly qualified Cultural Event Organisers in line with the requirements of the fifth level professional standard, who can develop and implement creative and economically justified events, and who are focused on further education.

 

Tasks of the study programme:

  • To ensure the provision of the study process in accordance with the requirements of the standard of education, Latvian legislation, the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015) and UN PRME programme (Principles of Responsible Management Education).
  • To provide both general and branch-related knowledge in the production of events with a focus on cultural and entertainment events.
  • To develop professional skills and competences in line with the needs of the modern labour market and society.
  • To provide knowledge and develop skills in the development, implementation, technical production of creative and innovative event concepts, thus promoting competitiveness in the labour market.
  • To promote cooperation with other higher education institutions in Latvia and abroad.

Internship: There are two internships within the programme. Students are encouraged to search for an internship independently, according to their interests. As part of their internship, students have worked in different projects and companies, such as the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, Latvian county and city cultural centres, event agencies, etc.

 

During their studies, students can participate in the Erasmus + project, studying or doing an internship at one of the partner institutions in Europe for 1-2 semesters.

Qualification Paper: As part of the qualification paper, the student prepares and implements an event project based on applied research.

Inese Rutka, Mg.translat. A graduate of the Latvian College of Culture with the qualification of cultural manager with specialization in amateur theatre direction. Has obtained an academic bachelor′s degree in arts at the Latvian Academy of Culture, and a professional master′s degree in translation at the University of Latvia and a professional qualification of a translator. In early years worked as a Head of Carnikava Cultural House, later turned to linguistics. In the study programme, teaches the study course "Introduction to the Speciality and Professional Ethics" and "Scriptwriting and Direction of an Event".

A specialist who is well paid in any company is a programmer. Qualified programmers are always in demand in the labour market both in Latvia and abroad. Programmers can work both in specialized companies that develop programmes for solving tasks in a wide variety of fields, such as banks, education, police, etc., and work individually.

Qualification to be obtained: Programmer

Programme amount: 120 ECTS Study field Information Technology, Computer Hardware, Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Management, and Computer Science is accredited for the maximum term of six years until 7 December 2029, by the Decision of the Study Quality Commission No 2023/46-A from 6 December 2023.

The aim of the study programme

To prepare qualified and competitive computer system and computer network administrators, and programmers in accordance with the requirements of the fifth level professional standard, who are oriented towards further education, providing the necessary knowledge and skills that would allow them to successfully enter the labour market and adapt independently to the changing socioeconomic conditions.

 

Tasks of the study programme:

  • To ensure the provision of the study process in accordance with the requirements of the standard of education, Latvian legislation, and the standards of European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015).
  • Provide conditions and opportunities for students to obtain short-cycle professional higher education in accordance with the standard requirements of the profession of programmer or computer system and network administrator.
  • To provide students with the necessary theoretical knowledge, as well as practical and professional skills in the profession to be acquired, ensuring the acquisition thereof in practical lessons, independent work and internship.
  • To ensure the quality of the studies by attracting qualified teaching staff and using modern methodological, scientific and material-technical provision in the study process.
  • To develop students′ abilities of scientific analysis, the ability to independently solve problems, as well as to promote their involvement in solving practical and scientific problems.

Alberta College has signed a cooperation agreement with SIA "Mikrotīkls" for student training to work with Mikrotik RouterOS equipment and software.

The students at Alberta College have a unique opportunity to use Microsoft′s software offerings for free. Free access to Microsoft software for Alberta College students – ISIC student card holders.

Internship: Two internships are provided for Alberta College students, which can be implemented both in Latvian and foreign companies. Students are encouraged to search for an internship independently, according to their interests. If necessary, the College helps in finding an internship through the base of cooperation partners. To provide internship placements, the College cooperates with the following companies: SIA "Latvijas dzelzceļš", "HoReCa", SIA "UCS", SIA "Bradis", SIA "EK Tehnika", "Corporate Solutions", SIA ""Ventspils Nafta" terminals", "Visma Group", "Accenture Latvija", National Armed Forces etc.

During their studies, students can participate in the Erasmus + project, studying or doing an internship at one of the partner institutions in Europe for 1-2 semesters.

Qualification Paper: As part of the qualification paper, students conduct research on current topics in the industry. Alberta College recommends using the potential of the College′s teaching staff, receiving free consultations from specialists and preparing a real project.

Lectures and seminars provide the student with a theoretical framework, while practical lessons at computers, laboratory work and internships give the opportunity to use the acquired knowledge in a specific workplace. As part of the studies, such computer software and languages as C, C++, MYSQL, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, CodeBlock, etc. are learned.

Opportunities after Graduation

The task of the programmer is to create understandable instructions for the computer to perform the task. A good computer programme must anticipate all situations that may arise in the work process, specify actions in each specific situation, and be able to respond to all changes in the computer. A programmer develops, tests and maintains a good and safe programme so that it could be used by any non-specialist in programming, or the so-called everyday user. Although it is not so simple, it is interesting and prestigious.

Graduates can go on an Erasmus graduate internship within one year after receiving their diploma. Please see Erasmus section for more details.

Upon acquisition of the qualification of a programmer, you will be able to work both in companies that are engaged in the development of programmes for solving tasks in various companies and public administration institutions, as well as individually write programmes for solving the tasks of a certain problem.

Qualified computer network administrator is of a great value in each state institution, each serious individual company or bank. Computer network administration – it is the skill to maintain and check computer network security, manage computer network resources, perform inventory, repair and install computer equipment, network equipment and software, protect information from computer viruses, from external attacks, internal threats and unauthorized access, as well as prevent emergency situations.
